How to Speed up Internet Connection Speed and Internet Browsing SpeedIf your Internet is running slowly and taking too long to open pages, there are a few things you can do to try to speed it up, even if you are limited to a dial-up connection. Wireless Interference If you are using a wireless connection, make sure that there is no signal interference. The position of your computer can actually make a difference if it has to deal with signal problems from other appliances and even nearby wireless signals. Anti-malware Programs One of the easiest yet most important things you can do is to install and run a good program to contain all kinds of viruses, Trojans and worms. Make sure you keep it updated and run it regularly. Tune Up Browser If you don’t care how pretty each website looks on your screen, you can streamline the system to block ads, images, Flash and Javascript which can slow down the connection. To do this in Firefox for example, go to Tools and then choose Options. Click on Content. Make sure there are no checkmarks by Enable JavaScript and Load Images Automatically. You can use add-ons to block both Flash and ads from appearing on your computer. Clean Up Temporary Internet Files You may be able to speed up the browsing by deleting everything from the Temporary Internet Files folder.
Increase Cache Size By increasing your browser’s cache size, it won’t have to reload the same web page elements every time you visit a site. For example, if your cache size is set to 50,000, try and increase it to 100,000. In Firefox, follow these instructions:
Disk Clean Up Cleaning up your disk space can also speed up web page loading times. 1. Go to Start and then choose Run. In the text box, type in: cleanmgr.exe and the press Enter. 2. Now just let it run. This may take awhile, so make sure that you have time to run it before you start. Uninstall Unused Programs Getting rid of programs on your computer that you no longer use is good for freeing up space, speeding up the performance of all your programs, and improving web loading times. Go to Start and then choose Control Panel. Click on Add/Remove Programs and you will see a list of programs that are installed on your machine. You will also see when you last used the program to help you decide if it is something you still need. Click on the program and then select Remove to delete it from your system. Of course, the best way to speed up a slow Internet connection is to use cable or DSL, but if you aren’t able to use a faster method, these tips should help get the best performance from the connection you have.
